Last weekend's hunt

I hunted the same area as Thursday on Friday evening, but I climbed up the mountain to the area the elk were in the evening before. Of course once up there, a bull started bugling on the far side of the drainage about an hour before dark. I stayed put since it would take me an hour to get there. Finally just before dark the bull on my side bugled at the far bull from about 100 to 150 yards away. I cow called some with no response. Then right at dark he bugled above and behind me out in the open. He appeared to be bugling at me and saying "if your coming, get over her now". When he crossed over the ridge he skylighted his rack. He was a really good bull with a huge body. The two behind him were spikes and I did not see any cows.

I hunted the same area on Saturday and was expecting some exitement after Friday evening, but all I heard was three shots from someone with a muzzleloader. The muzzleloader season started today and goes through the next weekend. I don't know if the extra people in the woods shut them down or what, but the entire day was uneventful. Needless to say, I was very disappointed.

I went to church on Sunday morning then took Isaac hunting with me in a new area on Sunday evening. We found fresh moose tracks from a cow moose and here two calves that have been seen near Redcliff a couple times. We also saw a couple elk rubs from this year, but that was the best we did. All other sign was old and the evening was uneventful.

I'll be hunting with Dad next weekend and plan to take a couple vacation days next week before season ends. I jjust need a couple lucky minutes to make this season work out.
